WHY I WON’T KETO
I’ve been thinking about this blog for a while. I’ve debated whether I should even write about this, but I do have pretty strong feelings about dieting in general. These are my personal opinions (based on what I like and my nutrition education) and should be taken as such. Why, in particular, did i choose Keto? It’s the current fad (even thought it’s been around for decades…people are making money from it now). Want to know the history behind Keto (short for Ketosis) Diet? IT’S GROSS TO ME
Simply put, Keto grosses me out. I see people share their screen shots from what they’ve had (logging their food) or even a picture of what they’ve cooked. It almost always make me want to gag. I personally couldn’t eat that much fat every day. Butter is delicious, and I love it as much as the next person, but the level of fat just grosses me out. I’ve seen picture of “smart Keto” but when it comes down to it, I haven’t seen anyone sharing their avocado and veggies. (I did come across this blog, and it actually looks pretty good, so if you’re looking for Keto tips the healthy way, check it out!)It’s animal fat (saturated fat) with more fat on top of it usually in the form of cheese, butter, sour cream, or cream sauce. Cream sauce is delicious, and I like it as much as the next person…on pasta…the kind made from wheat. 😬
I LOVE FOOD!
I like all kinds of food! Korean, Indian, Italian, Mexican, Vietnamese, Thai…I don’t want to substitute. Sorry (not sorry), but I don’t. I feel like food is a way we can experience other cultures and just enjoy life. With that said, if you’re trying to lose weight, loving food can put you in a tight spot. (Usually in the waist band of your pants.😑) I’m currently in the process of trying to lose a few pounds after not taking care of myself for the last year. Cutting out things I love isn’t really something I’m willing to do.
WHAT’S REALLY HAPPENING?
These people boasting weight loss from Keto aren’t really giving me impressive numbers. (I don’t say this as a …here me out.) Most people I’ve seen over the long term lose from 1-2 lbs a week. That’s what you would lose by eating a Thank balanced diet (including carbs) in a calorie deficit. It’s not magical folks. I promise. If you like eating that way, then go for it! (I personally wouldn’t want to and would be concerned about the high intake of saturated fats from animal sources. But that’s just me.) If you enjoy food, I might have something more up your alley.
SO WHAT SHOULD YOU DO?
I’m not here to tell you NOT to do Keto. I’m here to tell you it’s not magical, and if you enjoy eating a variety of foods, you can do so and STILL lose weight! Like I said, I’m in the process of doing it too. I personally lost 2 lbs last week. Not magic at all. I’m here to help, and if you need help, I’d love to help you achieve your goals.
