HAPPY (ALMOST) NEW YEAR

Can you believe the New Year is almost here? 2018 has flown by. It’s been a year of a lot of downs for me, personally. Finally, with the year coming to a close I feel like I have my head above the water. Depression is an ugly thing, and I battled it starting mid 2017!

I stopped caring about my health, and while I was still working out almost daily and even took up a new hobby, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, I neglected my food intake, my mental health, and my spiritual health. This was a cocktail for depression.

I contemplated waiting until January to start with a clean slate, but it was a lot more urgent than that. So the beginning of November I committed to eating better and losing weight, and I don’t think I could have been much happier with the results: 11lbs of fat gone from my body, more energy, and a renewed spirit ready to take on new challenges.

Food has always been a struggle for me. I love good food. I enjoy cooking, creating, and sharing with friends and family. It brings my heart great joy. The last year and a half I really stopped caring about what I was putting into my body, but after changing my mindset and focusing on being healthier I feel like “old” healthy Kelley is back!

Instead of looking at food as good and bad, I’ve learned to look at it as okay and better. Food should be enjoyed, but depending on your goals, you may need to make adjustments. This is what I love about Precision Nutrition and why I became a nutrition coach. They get it right.

Everyone is different, and therefore responds to foods differently. There is no “one-size-fits-all” approach to nutrition and diets. But we can always make good choices…better choices…and practice better habits. Small changes add up to big changes over time, and we’ve all been told (because it’s true) that losing weight slowly and without crash diets is the key to long term weight loss.
