MAKE THE CAKE…

or the cookies, or the dessert bars, or whatever treat you want.

HERE’S WHY

I think we are supposed to enjoy food. The old: this food is “good” and this food is “bad” is getting old, and so is trying to make things that are supposed to be enjoyed in moderation “healthy” or “healthier”.

I’M GUILTY

When I first started working out and learning about nutrition, I had some serious misconceptions about food and nutrition in general. I followed lots of “healthy” accounts on Instagram and Facebook and looked for ways to make foods I love healthier. While there’s nothing wrong with eating healthier, I think sometimes people get burnt out trying to do it or it just becomes overwhelming.

As I learned about nutrition and began actually taking a course on it and hearing and reading discussions on food and nutrition my mind started to change on what “healthy” and balanced looked like. I stopped looking at “good” food and “bad” food.

I believe food is meant to be enjoyed, and shouldn’t cost an arm and a leg. Look, food is expensive enough as it is without having to have a tablespoon of arrowroot powder or a cup of almond flour, chick pea flour, and coconut flour in one recipe. That mess adds up big time. So if you want a chocolate cake…make a chocolate cake. You don’t (or you shouldn’t) eat it every day. It’s okay, and you don’t need to try and make cake “healthy” or “healthier”. You can still overeat healthy foods. (If you have food allergies or sensitivities that you’ve confirmed, by all means, make adjustments to your recipes.) But please don’t try to make cake healthy. It’s not supposed to be good for you. It’s supposed to taste good.

So make the dessert and enjoy!
