LOVE

What is love?
“Baby don’t hurt me, no more…” Got the song in your head now?😂 Sorry, I had to. But really? What is love? As we approach Valentine’s Day, lets explore this “feeling” (what most people think it is) but really it’s more than a complex emotion.

Love is CHOOSING to seek the other’s highest good without regard to sacrifice.

train up a child
I think parents are able to do this for their children quite easily. I don’t think we often think of ourselves or how it will affect us when we do things for our children (even if it might impact us negatively on a personal level). But when it comes to a significant other, this can be quite troublesome.

I’m certainly no relationship expert, but I think when relationships fail it’s due to not applying the above definition to love. Now, that’s not my definition. I got this one from our church’s former marriage counselor when he did a series about marriage and raising children.
But it is definitely sacrificial. Jesus loved us this way (when He went to the cross to die for our sins) and when I think about how we should live this. I try to love others (my spouse included) in this way. Because Jesus doesn’t put limits on His love. (We humans are most unloveable.)

Remember…

”Charity (love) suffereth long, and is kind; Charity envieth not, charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,

Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil;

Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;

Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.”

I Corinthians 13:4-7

Love is strong, but it requires the strength of God to truly live this way because God IS love.
On this Valentine’s Day, and every day, I challenge you to love like Jesus. And if you think I’m writing this for everyone else and not myself, you would be wrong, because I need this reminder just as much as any person on this planet.
If you’ve not found the love of God through His Son, then I can’t think of a better time to find it than now. (If you’d like to know more, just send me a message.💕🥰 I’ll be happy to answer questions.)
