THE JOY OF A CLOUDY DAY
Few things in life bring me as much joy as a cloudy, rainy day. Does this seem odd to you? I know if someone had told me this ten years ago I would have thought it very strange. You see, we moved from Savannah (typically warm and sunny) to West Point, New York in October 2008. I met a typical, northern fall: dreary, cool, and rainy. The dreary, rainy fall turned into a dreary, snowy winter which eventually led to an unusually cool rainy spring and summer. After the birth of Jacqueline, I suffered from a deep depression.
HOPE IN THE MIDST OF DEPRESSION
Even though I was going through the darkest and saddest time of my life I turned to my faith like I never had at that time. I poured my heart and soul out to the Lord. I prayed fervently, and any time I read I was reading my Bible. In fact, for the first time in my life, I made it through the entire Bible from beginning to end in less than a year. Despite the difficult and sad circumstances, I found my faith in a way I never had before…and I’m not sure I would have found it without this trial.
COMFORT IN THE CLOUDS
Now when I look at the weather forecast and see that there is rain coming or expected clouds, I think back to that time in my life and feel great comfort knowing God brought me through that very sad and difficult time. I’m forever grateful for the trial. It changed me to my very core and has made me who I am now. I continue to use that time and our current situation to grow both professionally and spiritually. It has also allowed me to look at sometimes negative situations with a positive lens. Not that I have a Pollyanna outlook on everything, but I do my very best to try and see the good and positive in all situations.
WHAT YOU BELIEVE BECOMES YOUR REALITY
How do you see life? Is everything negative? Do you get upset by the tiniest things when they don’t go your way? I know I used to be extremely impatient and get frustrated easily. It’s something I continue to work on, but I always want to be the person who’s calm in the midst of chaos. My goal is to be the best version of myself each day…and help other women become the best version of themselves. I think this can start with the smallest of things…how will you try to be more positive today?
