Food Is Easy
Now you may be thinking, “Well, Kelley, you’re a health and fitness professional. Of course food is easy for you.” But here’s the thing, it is, and it isn’t. I don’t meant to say it like this and cause confusion, but on the one hand, I love food, so I want to eat all the food. On the other, putting together healthy and nutritious meals each day isn’t really that difficult. Almost all the meals I make, with the exception of the holidays take less than 30 minutes to prepare. My husband eats them (the kids are hit and miss, but they’re kids) and are pretty tasty…in my opinion.
When Did Food Get Complicated?
Doesn’t it seem like we’re always getting conflicting information? One minute coconut oil is good for you, the next we are told to avoid it. I wrote about the coconut oil debate a few months ago. Then there are all the Facebook videos that pages with hundreds of thousands of followers put out with nice graphics telling you that drinking a concoction of cinnamon, lemon juice, raw apple cider vinegar, and himalayan pink salt every morning. It’s good for you. You’ll lose weight and live forever. I’m sorry, but if you drink what they tell you and still eat crap food all the time, you won’t lose weight and you won’t live forever (which you can’t do anyway). We live in a fast-paced, ever-changing world with information being thrown at us literally every time we look at our phone.
What Can YOU Do About This?
Educate! I’ll be the first to admit, I adopted this idea of “clean eating” when I entered the world of health and fitness six years ago. It’s a great concept, but what does this ACTUALLY mean? This is important because we have buzzwords swarming us all the time. Let’s stop the buzzwords and learn what healthy eating and a healthy relationship with food looks like. I hate the word diet. Like really hate it, and I’ve successfully lost 40 lbs of fat without ever dieting. This is totally doable. I’ve taken the time and become certified to coach people with their nutrition. Don’t get me wrong, diets work, but when you go back to your “old” way of eating you gain the weight again.
Taking the Next Step
I realize we are in the midst of the holiday season. This is my favorite time of year, but many people over indulge during the holidays.
