At Home Workouts…Too Good to Be True?

At Home Workouts…

So for those of you who know me well, you know that I love fitness and love helping others reach their goals. For those of you who don’t know me and happen to be reading this;  now you do. 😉 I have never been what I would consider healthy, fit, or athletic…until about two years ago when it all clicked for me.

We’ve all seen the infomercials for P90X and Insanity. We see the before and after pictures, and we asks ourselves, “Can people really get those results from working out from home?” The answer is an undeniable, emphatic, “YES!!” Without a doubt, you can achieve the very results you see. Yes, every body type is different and some people have to go through multiple rounds depending on where he or she is starting, but yes, you can. How do I know? I did it myself.

After the birth of my second child, I was overweight and had decided to “get in shape” while I was pregnant with him. When I say “in shape” I simply meant that I wanted to weigh the same I did before I got pregnant with my first child, fit into those clothes, and be skinny. I already owned P90X and had tried using it to lose weight after the birth of my daughter. I think I lasted about three weeks and was within six pounds of my pre-pregnancy weight when I stopped. With the pain I was having from my c-section, I just didn’t feel like it was a doable program. I gave up, and a while later picked up “running”. (I put that in quotations because if you had seen me “running” during this time my pace was about a 15 minute mile. People can walk faster than that, and it certainly didn’t help me with any weight loss goals.) Why do I tell you all this? To share I’m a normal person, not someone who used to be an athlete and then lost it, but as someone who found it later in life.

So six weeks after my son was born I set out on a mission with my coach to lose the weight. It took  a few months. Actually it took close to nine months to lose all the weight, but I did it. I felt very accomplished, but after figuring out the nutrition component and a desire to do more than just be skinny I found actual fitness. I found an athletic body that I didn’t even know I had or was possible for me to have…all while working out at home.

Gyms Just Aren’t For Me

A gym was never on my radar. Not that I haven’t worked out in one before. Before kids, I went to the gym 3-4 days a week for free where my husband worked. My issue with gyms now is I’d rather not waste my time driving to and from the gym. I also don’t want to have to pay a sitter or rely on others to watch my kids, and truthfully I don’t want to throw a bunch of money at a gym membership when I know I can get better results at home. My husband is often not around because of his job, so I can’t wait for him to watch the kids or even sneak off in the morning before they awake. I have access to hundreds of workouts that stream to any device I have. Read more about this here.  I have some bands and some weights that I can use, and I have 30 minutes to an hour to dedicate to my health.

Why Not You?

I often hear people say they can’t workout at home…Those same people usually don’t find time for the gym either. I’m not being mean, I’m being truthful. What’s your motivation? What’s your goal? Really. Stop, and think about it for a moment? You can get real results from home with a program that you own.  It’s really that simple. Get a program (and a coach like me 🙂, do the program, lose weight, feel amazing. I don’t have to drive somewhere to be starred at by strangers or interrupted by people wanting to talk. No figuring out babysitting. It’s you vs. you in the privacy of your own home, and if you’re anything like me you don’t like people watching you workout. I’ve always found it terribly uncomfortable to know that people can see me working out. And I can assure you I didn’t want to set foot in a gym when I was overweight so people could watch me move painfully slow. But if you’re looking to get results, and get them quickly, then why not try it? I’d love to help you find something that suits your needs and ability.

Maybe it’s not for everyone, but honestly I can’t think of a better way to get in shape than in your own home. No rushing around and a shower afterwards…Yes! My life’s hectic enough, so I keep it simple.
